These Days of Chaos

I sit alone in the dark. It’s not often I get these moments.

Alone.

Quiet.

My life is filled with utter chaos most days and getting any time to bask in the quiet of the day is unheard of. But, yet, I sit here and I can’t quite put my finger on what it would be like to live without that chaos. The noise. The laughter. The squabbles between siblings. The tears and the love. I hope and I pray that when my babes are grown and the noise comes to an end that I will remember these days of chaos. These days when I longed to be still and quiet will seem like a lifetime away.

You Are Loved

Nothing drives me more bonkers about this time of year than being bombarded by messages about “weight loss”. Isn’t it everywhere you turn? I have posts from people all over my social media telling me how 2019 is going to be their year because they are committing to this or that and they are going to loose ___ pounds by February or March. New Years Resolutions surrounding weight loss are crazy right now.

And, I get it. I do. But what if we went into 2019 with realistic goals. What if instead of saying we want to loose X number of pounds — what if we went in saying we want to be healthier. What if we instead focused on how we want to FEEL instead of how we want to LOOK.

Listen, I started this whole heath journey because I wasn’t healthy. AT. ALL. I didn’t have a number of pounds I wanted to loose. What I wanted was to FEEL better about myself. What I wanted was to be HAPPIER. What I wanted was to be HEALTHIER. What I wanted was to show my kids the best version of THIS Momma.

What I can tell you about the best version of me is that she is quite content with how I look. I don’t need a 6 pack or be a size 4. I am the best version of myself not because I lost weight but because I decided to CHOOSE healthy and yes, I did loose weight but that number on the scale doesn’t define me. I don’t diet. I don’t measure or weigh my foods. I fill my body with the foods that I know work best for MY body. And when I do make choices that aren’t so healthy I don’t feel guilty about those choices. Sitting down and eating 3 cookies with my daughter that she made is not something to feel anything but LOVE for.

Listen Momma, don’t get caught up in all those posts about how you should look a certain way in 2019. Don’t tell yourself that you need to loose X number of pounds or that if you did you’d be happier. I’m here to tell you girl, loosing that weight might make you temporarily happy but it won’t stick. You need to made sustainable changes.

Want to be healthier in 2019? Then maybe you commit to moving your body everyday for 20 minutes — whatever that looks like for you. Maybe you commit to spending time each day making cookies with your kids, reading books, playing a game or doing something else that makes you happy. Maybe you fill your plate with veggies instead of unhealthy things. Maybe you walk around the block twice a week. Do what works best for YOU and your LIFE — not someone else’s.

Girl, you are worth more than some number on the scale. Go into 2019 thinking about how you want to FEEL and write that down. Focus on the things that will help you get to that feeling each and every day. And, girl, please, please don’t feel bad about yourself.

You are loved.

You are worthy of whatever it is that you want. 💜

3 Tips to SURVIVING a Sick Toddler

Can you believe that we’re nearing the end of another month? Remember that old saying — ‘time flies’? Yeah, it’s true isn’t it?

The last couple of weeks or so have been a blur…

Our house has been contaminated with a nasty Strep bug … that sounds awful … doesn’t it? Well, it hasn’t been that bad but it has made 5 out of 6 of us sick enough to require antibiotics. Yeah … it was that bad. If you know me, you know that I don’t run to the doctor with every little cough, sneeze and bit of snot! If that were the case, we would be there ALL the time. Yeah, who wouldn’t right? If you have kids then you know how hard it can be to avoid sicknesses. I mean, I’ve got two toddlers, and keeping their hands out of their nose and mouths is a full time job. I hate to admit this .. but one of my twins is also a world renowned nose picker. Ugh. It’s so disgusting, but I can’t keep those fingers out of his nose. I’ve never had a nose picker before … so if any of you other Mommas out there have a suggestion on how to kick that bad habit to the curb, please enlighten me – its becoming a problem. But, I digress here … back to my story about our illness invasion. It was so awful that one day I had to get my 9 year old to cook dinner for the rest of the kids. He did well and I am happy to say that he was able to cook breakfast sausages, waffles and eggs like a boss. I would even venture to say that the other kids thought it was probably the best meal that was ever put in front of them. Yeah, thanks kids! I might just add that to my weekly meal plan! 😉

I’ve come up with my top 3 tips to survive illness with toddlers and in no particular order … here they are!

Finding Balance

I’m sorry…it’s been far too long and it seems as though every post I write starts with an apology. I’m sorry about that. Oops, there I go again;)

My life is mostly crazy and for those of you who know me personally know that it’s actually always crazy. Having four kids and a hubby away half the month will do that I guess. Not to mention, having twin boys who are now toddlers. Toddlers that like to try everything, throw everything, spit on everything (am I alone on this one?!?), stand on everything, hit each other, bite each other and well, basically, you get the picture right?  Also, two older children who are involved in sports and school and are just as busy as the younger two but in a much more organized and civilized way. A Little of This and a Little of That …

I’ve survived the Christmas season. Why is it that we make Christmas cray cray crazy? Seriously … why?

This year I tried really hard to make the whole Christmas experience magical and less crazy for our kids. In case you’ve forgotten, I already live that most ridiculous lifestyle … I’ve got four kids, and a husband who’s away half the month for work. Yes, coffee is my fuel most days. I survive on it. I used to be one of those people who only enjoyed coffee occasionally and never past 3 pm. If I drank it too late, I could most definitely count on being awake until the wee hours of the morning. Now, coffee is in my blood stream for most of the day and into the evening. When I do manage to hit the pillow at the end of the day, I am utterly exhausted. So, sure, I’ll have another cup. Anyway, I digress, back to the Christmas season talk…. Continue reading “A Little of This and a Little of That …”
